MACROLANE VRF is a NASHA™ gel for volume restoration and contouring of body surfaces. The Gel is a stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid (NASHA) is unique to Q-MED. Naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid (HA) undergoes a process where less than one percent is stabilized to form a permanent three-dimensional HA network without damaging the original chemical structure. This stabilization process produces a biologically degradable NASHA gel that carries minimal risk of allergic reaction or transmission of infectious substances and enables a longer durability. You may have heard of Restylane before. Restylane has been used for treating facial lines and wrinkles and lip enhancement for 10 years accounting for about 9 million injections worldwide. Macrolane is a similar product to restylane but much larger particles. Q Med are the first manufacturer to gain full European Approval (CE marked) for hyaluronic acid gels to be used for body treatments. After a Treatment Macrolane feels firm for a few days as the subcutaneous or buttock tissue absorbs water, after a week or 2 it begins to soften. Thereafter you may feel a deep firmess under your skin. However it is generally thought to be much more natural and softer then traditional implants. Some experience some mild swelling after the procedure which usually settles within 10 days. Occasional minimal bruising which will disappear after 10-14 days. This would be helped by taking Arnica tablets. Sometimes you may experience a dull deep ache across the chest and shoulders. this is helped by simple paracetamol and usually settles with 1-2 days. A small waterproof dressing is applied over the injection site. This can be removed after ten days. To reduce any chance of infection you will be given some antibiotics to take for three days after your treatment. You are advised to avoid any vigorous sporting activities for one week. A good support (Lycra shorts for buttock treatments) should be worn for one week day and night and then during vigorous sporting activity for two weeks. Further Treatments Macrolane is topped up every year with roughly half the volume that is injected initially. Most people would have 200mls in the first treatment thus have a 100ml top up in 12 months. They would then have a longer period before the next top up, say 14 months and so on. Costs The cost of Macrolane depends on how much product is used. Macrolane costs £2650 for 200mls ( 100mls per buttock) For smaller amounts prices start from £1500. Please call the clinic for more details. Safety A study in Japan involving 1100 patients who underwent breast augmentation with NASHA gels demonstrated the safety and efficacy of NASHA. The authors reported non-surgical mammary augmentation with NASHA to be an easy and minimally invasive procedure, demonstrating favourable results.
